These are the birds we have seen recently in the Canopy Tower (CT) and in the Canopy Lodge (CL).

Slate-colored Seedeater 2010-03-04 Pipeline road CT Carlos B. This is one those years where we can see a lot of wild bamboo full of seeds and that had attracted many Slate-colored Seedeater, many who are nesting in the area… We hope to keep looking at this bird during this whole season…We also had wonderful scope views of White-tailed Trogon, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Violaceous Trogon and Black-throated Trogon…Male and Female Rosy-thrush Tanager were easy seen…Southern-beardless Tyrannulet, Black-capped Pygmy-tyrant, Brown-capped Tyrannulet, Yellow-tyrannulet, Bright-rumped Atila, Streak Flycatcher were very cooperative with us. Pipeline road is one great place for nature…
Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo 2010-03-04 Canopy Adventure Trail CL Tino Sanchez Our top guide Tino, took his regular bird walk along the Canopy Adventure trail, looking for a Tody Motmot and he got it… Every one on his group was very excited about see this bird and suddenly Tino Spotted a Rufous-Vented Ground Cuckoo on the trail and was seen by all the participant of the birding tour… This is been a good week from Ground-Cuckoo at the Canopy Tower and The Canopy Lodge… Well Done Tino!
Rufous-crested Coquette 2010-03-02 La mesa CL Tino Sanchez Tino had a great time birding at La Mesa road once again, where he got to show his group a good selection of birds like; Spot-crowned Barbet, Cinnamon Becard, Orange-bellied Trogon, Black-throated Mango, Blue-throated Toucanet, Bran-colored Flycatcher… And of curse the amazing looking Rufous-crested Coquete… Good job Tino…
Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo 2010-03-01 Pipeline Road CT Jose Soto Our top guide Jose Soto, found a nice army ant swarm where he and his group enjoy perfects views of Ocellated Antbird, Bicolored Antbird, Spotted Antbird, Plain-brown Woodcreeper, Cocoa Woodcreeper, Northern Barred Woodcreeper… Jose was taking to his group about looking very careful for Ground-cuckoo and as he was finishing saying that he spot the Cuckoo and every one got to see it!... Chris Benesh and Domi Alveo were leading a Field Guide Inc. group on Pipeline road so they also got to observe this amazing bird…Well done Jose!
Great Jacamar 2010-02-24 Pipeline Road CT Pat Ward & Carlos B. What a fantastic morning we all had at the pipeline road, we all got nice view of the Sreak-chested Antpitta, Pied Puffbird, Black-breasted Puffbird, Black-capped Pygmy-Tyrant…Not to mention an amazing view of the Great Jacamar… Once again pipeline road was just great!...
Tropical Screech-Owl 2010-02-24 Cara Iguana road CL Tino Sanchez Tino took his group out for a nice birding afternoon at Cara iguana trail, where he show every one on his group; Lance-tailed Manakin, Blue-crowned Motmot, Panama Flycatcher, Long billed Starthroat, Pale-eyed Pygmy-Tyrant... Tino also was able to find on a rusting a spot a pair of Tropical-screech Owl, beautiful birds... In the afternoon, Tino went to Rio Indio feeders where his group got amazing views of Spot-crowned Barbet, Golden-hooded Tanager, White-lined Tanager, Lemon-rumped Tanager...
Blue Cotinga 2010-02-23 Chagres River CT Pat Ward & Carlos B. This was one of the group participant target bird and we are glad we all got it, we even got amazing views on the telescope and pictures, it is just an Electric Blue bird…We also got to see very well; Yellow-billed Cacique, Cinnamon Becard, White-bellied Antbird, Great Antshrike, Cocoi Heron, Pied-billed Grebe, Blue-winged Teal, American Coot… We also got beautiful views of seven Collared Peccary…
Pheasant Cuckoo 2010-02-20 Pipeline road CT Carlos B. The birding from the Canopy Tower observation deck was amazing today... It started a little bit slow but just before breakfast birds were coming close to the observation Deck so we all got great views of; Green-shrike Vireo, Tropical Gnatcatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Lesser Greenlet, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Cinnamon Woodpecker, Scale Pigeon, Gray-headed Kite, Plumbeous Kite, Lesser-swallow Tailed Swift.... And the Tamarin Monkeys did their show as well... After breakfast we went to the Pipeline road to look for the Streak-chested Antpitta and we all got nice view of it... We also hear a Pheasant Cuckoo and call it right in... What a morning amigos! It was fun...
Yellow-billed Cacique 2010-02-19 Chagres river CT Carlos B. Birding along the Chagres river in the afternoon can be amazing, specially this time of the year where most of the trees are flowering... We stop in huge nesting area of Yellow-rumped Cacique they were very vocal and every one enjoy seen it... After the Cacique Show we took a short walk along the river and we got to see a beautiful male Great Antshrike calling... We also got wonderful views of Rosy-thrush Tanager, Black-tailed Flycatcher, Kentuky Warbler, Dusky Antbird, Barred Antshrike, Fasciated Antshrike... Wooo! That was good.... Before we headed back to the Canopy Tower we got to see an immature Collared Forest Falcon on the ground feeding... Birding just gets better and better every time!...
Slaty Antwren 2010-02-19 La mesa CL Tino Sanchez Tino got a nice mix flocks at la Mesa where this little Slaty Antwren gave every one fabulous view...Other birds observed where; Silver-Throatd Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Golden- winged Warbler, Scale-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Tawny-crested Tanager, Spot-crowned Antvireo... Good Job amigo!....
Spot-crowned Barbet 2010-02-18 Rio Indio CL Tino Sanchez Tino took his group to rio indio where every one enjoy the view of this beautiful bird... They also got to see; Emerald Tanager, Streaked Antwren, White-lined Tanager, Long-tailed Tyrant...After a nice lunch at the Canopy lodge Tino took his group to las mozas road where they all got to see the Rose-throated Becard, that was found by Tino for the first time at el Valle a while ago... Others birds seen this afternoon were; Yellow-throated Vireo, Rufous-breasted Wren, Rufous and White Wren, Lesser Elaenia, Garden emerald....Well done Tino!...
Harpy Eagle 2010-02-11 Pipeline Road CT Carlos B. Pipeline road is a wonderful place to see many birds and today was with out doubt excellent birding day… We started the morning with a nice pair of Rosy-Thrush Tanager… We all got perfect view of this amazing bird, we could not ask for better looks. After all the action we drove in a little bit more where we call in a beautiful Streak-chested Antpitta who stay very close to us and we got to digscope it very well… We were almost ready to head back when a Speackled Mourner started to call and we whistled it in… What a bird!.. After a wonderful lunch at the Tower we all decided to head back to the pipeline road to look for an army ants swarm but we were not lucky this time… On step we got a nice view of a family group of Song Wren and one Scaly-breasted Wren… The best thing was to observe for over an hour a nice Harpy Eagle that was calling and moving his wings at the same time… Check the video of the Harpy on Facebook…
Snail Kite 2010-02-10 Gatun Lake CT Carlos B. A wonderful Boat trip we had today where we got to enjoy Snail Kites adults and immature at Gatun Lake… We also had great views of Cocoi heron, Blue-winged Teal, American Coot, Pied-billed Grebe, Least Grebe, Striated Heron, Ringed Kingfisher, Magnificent Frigate Bird, Red-capped Manakin, Golden-collared Manakin… We took a nice hike in one of the Panama Canal Island where we all got great views of Song Wren, Broad-billed Motmot and a pair of Golden-crowned Spadebill… It was a lot of fun, plus the White-face Capuchin put on a nice show for us… Howler mokeys and three toed Sloth were also seen….
Blue Cotinga 2010-02-09 Panama Rain Forest Discovery center Sharon Stiteler & Carlos B. The Panama Rain Forest Discovery Center is a very special place and a good for every one that wants to enjoy Hummingbirds close up!… We leave the Canopy Tower early morning and climb the 172 steep of the Discovery Tower, once up there we all enjoy great views of the Blue Cotinga males plus Black-breasted Puffbird, White-necked Puffbird, Semiplumbeous Hawk, Crane Hawk, Double-toothed Kite, Gray-headed Kite, Zone-tailed Hawk, Short-tailed Hawk, Cinnamon Woodpecker, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Mealy and Red-lored Parrot Just to mention a few birds observed early today…
Rosy Thrush-Tanager 2010-02-08 Pipeline road PL Sharon Stiteler & Carlos B. Every one in the group was very excited about seen this amazing bird very close to us… Scope views and nice videos of the female where taken…We also had a nice male Slated-colored Seedeater, Blue-ground Dove, Golden-collared Manakin, White-winged Becard, Yellow Tyrannulet, Black-bellied Wren, Lesser Greenlet… Birds are so wonderful that’s why we love them!...
Blue-throated Toucanet 2010-02-06 La Mesa CL Tino Sanchez This special toucanet that live in the foothill of the Anton Valley was calling on a cecropia tree and Tino was able to scope it... He also observed other birds like; Bay-headed Tanager, Spot-crowned Barbet, Cinnamon Becard... In the afternoon Tino took a walk with his group to the canopy adventure trail where they all got great views of Bay Wren, Golden-collard Manakin, Black-chested Jay.... Wooo Tino sounds like a lot of fun brother...
Tody Motmot 2010-02-04 Cara Iguana Trail CL Tino Sanchez Tino Sanchez manage to call in a Tody Motmot... He also observed Blue-crowned Motmot, Garden Emerald, Tropical-screach Owl... Nice afternoon at Cara Iguana Trail...
Orange-bellied Trogon 2010-02-02 Gaital Hill CL Tino Sanchez Tino Sanchez had a fantastic morning at the Gaital Hill where he was able to show every one in his group a beautiful male orange bellied trogon.. He also got to see, spot crowned antvireo, Plain ]Antvireo, Slaty Antwren, Gray-breasted woodwren, Rufous mourne, Tawny-crested Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Golden-hooded Tanager, Spotted Woodcreeper, Black-faced Grossbeak, White-ruffed Manakin, Silver-throated Tanager...Well done Tino!
Scaly-breasted Wren 2010-01-20 Canopy Adventure Trail CL Tino Sanchez Tino Sanchez was able to spot and show his bird group this hard to see bird around the Canopy Adventure trail... He also was able to see Eye-ringed Flatbill, Tawny-crested Tanager, Tawny-capped Euphonia, Blue-crowned Manakin, Ruddy-tailed flycatcher, Bay-headed Tanager, Bay Wren, Violed-headed hummingbird, Tody Motmot... Good Job Tino!
Eye-ringed Flatbill 2010-01-19 Canopy Adventure CL Tino Sanchez eyed ringed flatbill Tino Sanchez, took a morning walk around the Canopy Adventure trail where he got wonderful views of this flatbil... He also got to see; White-breasted Woodwren, Red-crowned Ant-Tanager, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Rufous Motmot, Blue-throated Toucanet.... Good job Tino!
Ocellated Antbird 2010-01-15 Pipeline Road CT Jery Langham & Carlos B. Pipeline road was wonderful once again specially the PRDC Visitor Center where we got great views of Black-breasted Puffbird, White-necked Puffbird, Chestnut-Mandibled Toucan, White-winged Becard, Brown-capped Tyrannulet, Blue Cotinga, Slate-colored Seedeater... We also got a message from Jose Soto that was on the Pipeline road with another group and he told us that he had a very nice Army Ant Swarm, we headed qucikly that way and got to see Ocellated, Bicolored and Spotted Antbird, Plain-brown Woodcreeper, Black-striped Woodcreeper, Northern Barred Woodcreeper, Gray-headed Tanager... Wooo Nice morning at Pipeline Road...
White-headed Wren 2010-01-13 Achiote Road CT Jery Langham & Carlos B. This amazing wren was very cooperative and we all got perfect scope views of it... We also had; Spot-crown Barbet, Crane Hawk, White-collard Switf, White-tailed Trogon, Pacific Antwren, Pied Puffbird, Rufous-breasted Hermit, Black-bellied Wren, Plain Wren, Montezuma Oropendola, Crested Oropendola, Thick-billed Seedfinch, Yellow-back Oriole, Yellow-tailed Oriole, Common-black Hawk, Mangrove Cuckoo, Black-tailed Trogon... It was a wonderful birding day!...
Blue Cotinga 2010-01-12 Observation Deck & Summit Ponds CT Jery Langham & Carlos B. This electric Blue bird was observed from the observation deck very easy... We also enjoy views of Green-honeycreeper, Blue Dacnis, Red-lored Parrot, Mealy Parrot, Brown-hooded Parrot, Gray-headed Kite... After a wonderful Breakfast we all went to the Summit ponds where had excellent views of Boat-billed Heron, Gray-necked Woodrail, Blue-ground Dove, Spectacled Owls... Nice morning!
Tody Motmot 2010-01-12 Valle Chiquito CT Tino Sanchez Our Top Guide Tino Sanchez was able to call in this beautiful Tody Motmot... He also was able to show his groups birds like; Lance-tailed Manakin, Yellow-throated Vireo, Yellow-backed Oriole, Long-billed Starthroat, Garden Emerald... After Lunch Tino took his group to Rio Indio where they observed; Spot-crowned Antvireo, Spotted Woodcreeper, Broad-billed Motmot...Excellent Tino!
Stripe-cheeked Woodpecker 2010-01-11 Cerro Azul CT Jery Langham & Carlos B. We got up early morning and head up to Cerro Azul with the VENT. Once in Cerro azul the wind was very bad and almost no birds around, so we did plan B and it works very well... We got to see the endemic Striped-cheeked Woodpecker building a nest... We also got to see; Rufous-winged Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Spot-crowned Barbet, Lineated Woodpecker, Red-capped Manakin, White-ruffed Manakin, Violet-capped Hummingbird... It turn out to be a great day after a slow windy morning!...
Scaly-throated Leaftosser 2010-01-10 Semaphore Hill CT Jery Langham & Carlos B. After a great look of the Green-Shrike Vireo from the Observation deck, Jery and I took the VENT group birding on Semaphore Hill, where we all have close up view of this amazing Leaftosser... We also had Brown-capped Tyrannulet, Slate-colored Grosbeak, King Vulture... It was a very good morning!...
Blue Cotinga 2010-01-09 Observation Deck and Semaphore Hill CT Carlos B. It was nice to come back from vacation and see my old good friend Mr. Blue Cotinga from the Canopy Tower Observation Deck...We also had Red-lored Parrot, Mealy Parrot, Blue-headed Parrot and Brown-hooded Parrot... Blue Dacnis and Green-Honeycreeper, Plain-colored Tanager... After breakfast we went down Semaphore hill were we all got excellent views of Red-capped Manakin, Blue-crowned Manakin, Chestnut-back Antbird, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, Cocoa Woodcreeper, White-breasted Wood-wren, Black-bellied Wren, White-whiskered Puffbird, Crane Hawk... Semaphore hill was nice and fun to bird...
Tiny Hawk 2010-01-09 Cerro Gaital CL Tino Sanchez After a nice breakfast at the Canopy Lodge Tino took the Caligo Gruop up to Cerro Gaital where they all got to see Orange-bellied Trogon, Tawny-Crested Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Silver- Throated Tanager... Every one was having a great time when Tino Spot a small hawk and it was very Tiny, yes! it was a Tiny Hawk woooo, that's what Tino kept hearing from everyone that look on the telescope... He also manage to get a nice White-tipped Sicklebill...Not bad Tino, not bad at all!..
Black-tailed Trogon 2010-01-08 Pipeline road CT Carlos B. Pipeline road with out doubt is incredible, every time we are there we get to see amazing birds, like this Trogon that was nicely seen on the telescope as well as Black-throated Trogon, Slaty-tailed Trogon, White-tailed and Violaceous Trogon... We all got excellents views of Bicolored Antbird, Song Wren, Black-bellied Wren, Fasciated Antshrike, White-flanked Antwren, Checker-throated Antwren, Stripe-throated Hermit... What a nice morning we all had...
Tody Motmot 2010-01-08 Cara Iguana Trail CL Tino Sanchez Once again Tino whistle in a nice Tody Motmot so every one got perfect scope views... He also show his group birds like; White-winged Becard, Yellow-throated Vireo, Worm-eating Warbler, Golden-hooded Tanager, Hepatic Tanager... Good Job Amigo!
