The scene upon arriving at the Canopy Lodge for the first time is one not soon forgotten, and this year was certainly no different. Four tray feeders scattered about the garden and adjacent to the dining room were literally swarming with birds. Powder-blue Blue-gray Tanagers were perhaps the most common visitors (we had 35 in view at once!), followed closely by Clay-colored Thrushes. |

Our first Central Panama: Birds & Butterflies tour proved to be a fabulous way to experience the amazing diversity that this region has to offer. With a more limited itinerary than our regular birding tours to Panama, we had the luxury of time at each location. The result was good success finding most of the birds of those areas, plus time to enjoy the wonderful diversity not only of butterflies, but also mammals, reptiles, amphibians, dragonflies, moths, and more! It's hard to imagine visiting an area of such biological richness as Central Panama and just looking at birds! |

Ten happy photographers joined Linda Robbins, our assistant Rich Garrett, and me for a great trip to Panama. We spent our first three nights at Canopy Tower and our last four at Canopy Lodge...
Peter Comments: ...The lodges were great and the photography was amazing. The hummingbird action at the PRDC rivaled the best sites I've visited in Costa Rica and Ecuador. Looking down at the sloths, toucans, and cotingas from atop the Canopy Tower offered unique photographic perspectives.

This is a brief report of a birding trip to Panama in June 2009 by Enno Ebels and Roef Mulder. We visited both the Canopy Tower and Canopy Lodge. The daily rain (Green Season!) was mostly limited to 1-2 hours around lunchtime and did not really affect birding.
We recorded an impressive amount of 291 species in 9 days. In our home country The Netherlands one would need several years of active birding to get to that number! |

My
wife and I stayed six nights (five full days) at this famous
establishment. The accommodations were comfortable, the food good and
the guides excellent. The trip highlight, and an all-time great birding
moment, was a Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo at an army ant swarm on the
nearby Pipeline Road. Other gems included Tiny Hawk, Crested Owl, Great
Potoo, Great Jacamar and the Tower’s signature species - Blue Cotinga.
Our total list was 205.
Period: 13.1.2009-17.1.2009
