Dawn in the Foothills & Canopy Lodge Trails

(6:00 am—Noon) $140

Begin your exciting day of guided nature tours by watching the tray feeders—just off the Observation Veranda—to witness the flurry of bird activity! Many of the birds you will see the first hour, either at the feeders or the surrounding grounds, include Crimson-backed, Blue-gray, White-lined, Lemon-rumped, Dusky-faced & Plain-colored Tanagers, Red-crowned Ant-Tanager, Thick-billed Euphonia, Chestnut-headed Oropendola, Red-legged Honeycreeper, Red-crowned Woodpecker, Streaked & Buff-throated Saltators, Yellow-faced Grassquit, Ruddy Ground-Dove, Clay-colored Robin, Rufous Motmot and several Hummingbirds. It will be hard to break away from the birds to enjoy a hearty breakfast! Next, you are off to explore the bird-rich trails which snake their way around the forested grounds on one of our exciting eco trips! With suspension bridges over a scenic creek and offering picturesque views, the trail leading to the waterfall called “Chorro El Macho” is our signature trail and one of the main attractions in El Valle! [Note: Our trail system here at the Lodge is one of the best places anywhere in the Neotropics to have a chance to see the Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo!] After your nature trips, you may visit our organic garden, or you may want to take a dip in our natural swimming pool, which was created by diverting crystal-clear water from the nearby Guayabo River. With a year-round temperature of 76°F, it offers a welcome respite from some heavy-duty birding on our daily nature trips. Enjoy all these guided nature tours with one of our expert birder/naturalist bilingual guides, who will be sure to guarantee that you will have an unforgettable experience!
